Andrew Cuomo is up to his neck in controversy. From accusations of sexual assault to his nursing home scandal. Recently Democrats in the New York State assembly have given the green light for an impeachment investigation.
With this being a bipartisan issue, it will be a very difficult fight for the Governor. Especially if his accusers turn out to have any merit. Combined with his nursing home scandal, Political disaster is inbound for Cuomo.
The New York Post wrote:
“(Carl) Heastie (D-The Bronx) said he was “authorizing the Assembly Judiciary Committee to begin an impeachment investigation, led by Chair Charles D. Lavine, to examine allegations of misconduct against Governor Cuomo.”
Heastie also said the probe “will not interfere with the independent investigation being conducted by Attorney General [Letitia] James,” who on Monday announced the hiring of several outside lawyers, including former acting Manhattan US Attorney Joon Kim.”
An impeachment would require a majority vote of the assembly. There are 149 members of the New York State Assembly, 106 Democrats, 43 Republicans. a minimum of 32 Democrats would have to favor impeachment in order to pull it off.
As more and more of his peers call for resignation, Cuomo says the only way he will leave office is through an impeachment.
