There is a poor service review in Amazon’s future.
Itzel Ramirez, a 21-year-old delivery driver for Amazon, has been charged with two counts of elder abuse and battery after a heated dispute that escalated to a racially tinged assault. Ramirez rambled about the victim’s “white privilege” before striking the 67-year-old woman repeatedly in the head following a despite regarding a late delivery. Charges pertaining to a “hate crime”, however, have mysteriously not been tacked onto the case. Hardly surprising for California.
The victim, who has not been named, sustained non-life-threatening injuries including a broken nose. The landlord of Vista Creek Apartments commented on the attack as “frightening to see”, and reported that the 67-year-old victim was not in an adequate mental state to speak to the press. Due to this, it is uncertain if she will be able to testify against Ramirez, who faces arrangement tomorrow and is being held on $100,000 bail.
Amazon has since issued a statement proclaiming, “This [incident] does not reflect the high standards we have for drivers who deliver our packages…We take these matters seriously and this individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages.” Good news for customers in Castro Valley.
