Texas Governor Greg Abbott is punching back after Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett mocked his disability during a political event, calling him “Governor Hot Wheels.” Appearing on Fox News’ Hannity, Abbott didn’t hold back, accusing Democrats of peddling division instead of ideas.
“The reality is they have no vision, no policy—they have nothing to sell but hate,” Abbott said. “And Americans are not buying it.”
Mockery and a Backpedal
The firestorm began when Crockett, speaking at a Human Rights Campaign event in Los Angeles, referred to Abbott by the derogatory nickname. While she later attempted to walk it back—claiming her insult was about Abbott’s migrant relocation policy—critics across the political spectrum weren’t buying it.
Disability advocates and Republican lawmakers alike slammed the comment, calling it ableist and dehumanizing. Abbott, who has been paralyzed from the waist down since a 1984 accident, has never used his condition as a political shield—but the attack struck a nerve with many Americans.
Abbott Points to Texas Success
Rather than dwell on the insult, Abbott used the moment to highlight Texas’ national leadership, pointing out that the state has been ranked number one for new economic development projects 13 years in a row. He also emphasized Texas’ growing dominance in space exploration, artificial intelligence, and border security.
“While the Left is busy slinging insults, we’re building the future,” Abbott said. “And we’re doing it without their nonsense.”
Censure Push Intensifies
Rep. Randy Weber announced he would introduce a resolution to formally censure Crockett for her “vile and disgraceful” remarks, echoing calls from Senator John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton, who labeled her comments “shameful” and “despicable.”
Despite the attempted clarification, the controversy isn’t dying down. Critics say it’s part of a broader trend on the Left: when they run out of arguments, they resort to insults—even at the expense of decency and human dignity.
Bottom Line
While Democrats like Crockett trade in mockery, Governor Abbott is focused on results. As he put it best, “We’re going to leave them in the dust.”
