In a recent interview with Vogue Magazine, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki explained that she feels being called “nice” isn sexist.
She compared the compliment to the sound of “nails on a chalkboard”.
Psaki is referring to her introduction to a foreign delegation, when they were told “This is Jen. You may have seen her do the briefings. She’s a really nice person”. She believes there could be a better way to describe someone.
She went on to say it was “sexist and a little diminishing”, adding “sometimes I’m friendly and joyful, and sometimes I’m tough, and sometimes I’m straightforward”.
The article from Vogue included a dig at former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who echoed Donald Trump’s media criticism. They praised Psaki for not complaining about CNN’s news coverage.
The magazine also featured Jill Biden on its August cover. Vogue has a history of featuring political figures, especially first ladies, but faced criticism from the Trump White House when Melania Trump was not featured.
