Biden’s Disastrous Aggression: A Stain on Ukraine’s Cause

The once tagged ‘crazy SOB,’ ‘butcher,’ and ‘war criminal,’ who ‘cannot be removed from power’ is now being approached with a new narrative: ‘He desires tranquility. If he didn’t, he would have informed me. I trust him on this matter.’ This change in tone when dealing with world leaders often confuses foreign policy experts as the true intention behind the dialogue remains hazy.

The recent news of President Trump appearing to go easy on Russia’s Putin over a potential Ukraine peace deal stands in stark contrast to the aggressive footing of Biden. Trump’s diplomatic show with Putin is a total rewrite of Biden’s aggressive stance, stumping Ukraine and its European partners.

Oleksiy Goncharenko, a Ukrainian lawmaker, voices his discomfort. In a teleconversation from Munich, Germany, he suggested that the current score reads Russia 1, US 0. With Ukraine seemingly losing, Goncharenko felt puzzled by the new language being used about Putin.

Goncharenko’s confusion is founded on the fact that Putin is no rookie. Six American Presidents have risen above him, and five have faded away, throwing in sporadic bursts of collaboration on trade, nuclear and missile protocols, combating terrorism among others.

Despite momentary camaraderie, the undercurrent of hostility ran in the proceedings during Biden. Even as Putin and his Russian officials bristled, Biden reciprocated with equal fervor, resorting to name-calling him a ‘ruthless tyrant’ and a ‘murderous dictator.’

Biden escalated tensions by severing all conversations with the Russian government after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. His financial backup to Ukraine’s military and rallying allies behind Ukraine’s cause were clear indicators of his steadfast support towards Ukraine.

Unmoved by Biden’s pompous display of power, Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy expressed his disdain saying he wouldn’t want to endure the same circumstances as during Biden’s era, calling for immediate sanctions and armaments.

Contrarily, Trump’s proposal for a potential rollback of US sanctions on Moscow was labeled ‘astonishing’ by Bruen. Hegseth seemed doubtful about the US’s dedication to NATO. Subsequently, Trump engaged in a ‘lengthy and fruitful’ conversation with Putin over the possibility of peace talks for Ukraine.

Breaching the norms, Trump engaged with Putin before talking to Zelenskyy, which fueled controversy. Zelenskyy was critical of the approach, his statement hinting at the unwanted negotiation occurring over Ukraine’s head.

The notion that Trump potentially ‘betrayed’ Ukraine upset officials. Ksenia Maximova, a London-based activist born in Moscow, believes that it’s impossible to deduce Putin’s intentions and therefore it’s precarious to anticipate the future direction.

Ksenia Maximova opines that Trump put himself and Europe in a vulnerable situation. She expressed her concern via a WhatsApp message.

Interestingly, there is a section in Russia that is celebrating Trump’s seemingly switched stance on Putin. It’s a marked divergence from the ostracization that the U.S., under Biden’s reign, had subjected Putin to.

‘It was hasty,’ opined Haavisto, during a phone interview, expressing his skepticism over Trump’s recent public comments on Putin and Ukraine’s peace talks. The situation offers a complex view of the international dynamics at play and how leaders drastically alter their stance.

The political landscape remains unstable as the world watches the oscillating attitude of American leaders. Notably, the approach towards Putin ranges from severe criticism to a surprising thaw in relations. It is yet to be seen how these dynamics will shape the future.

The unfolding drama further reinforces the unpredictability of politics. As the U.S. sways between conflicting stances, its relationships with world powers hangs in the balance. One thing is for certain though: Biden’s aggressive posturing was not well received and the Trump’s accommodating stance is raising eyebrows.
