The claim was made vocally by Pressley over the weekend that Musk has not been chosen through public vote, and voiced her concern that the former president, Donald Trump, has given free reign to an influential billionaire to exploit confidential documents and private fiscal data. While Musk was not voted into a position of power by the public, he has been assigned a governmental role by Trump’s administration. This statement was shared in response to a series of articles in the New York Times, discussing how Elon Musk, with his Department of Governmental Efficiency task force, has managed to gain authorization to key databases from the Department of Treasury. This database holds responsibility for numerous critical national payments.
Pressley communicated her concern, saying, ‘There is absolutely no justification for Elon Musk to have access to the system responsible for the distribution of Social Security checks.’ She expressed serious apprehension regarding this surprising situation, terming it a ‘frightening abnormality.’ Pressley reiterated over the weekend that Musk has no electoral mandate and accused Former President Donald Trump of welcoming a high-risk billionaire to pillage confidential records and private monetary data.
‘This man is a reckless plutocrat, lacking political experience but causing chaos in every path he crosses,’ Pressley stated. She further added, ‘At the moment, he has managed to isolate himself with the financial lifeline of the elderly — their Social Security checks.’ Regardless of not having been chosen by the public, Musk has been incorporated into an official position by Trump’s team.
The announcement about Musk planning to discontinue the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was followed by news that he was officially entering federal government duty. This came through confirmation from a White House authority who spoke to USA TODAY. Trump appointed Musk as a ‘special government employee’, according to the official.
Later, the White House Press Secretary verified to members of the press that Musk had formally embarked on his role within the Trump administration. This special designation allows certain freedoms to Musk, enabling him to function under federal employment, with the choice to waive payment, for a fixed time period. Additionally, he was allowed usage of official government email and provided with office space.
The White House representative mentioned, asserting Musk’s voluntary service nature, that there would be no monetary compensation for Musk’s endeavours. Musk has chosen not to directly address these details posed by Pressley but elected to highlight the DOGE in a noticeable post.
In Musk’s words, the DOGE is engaged in significant activity. He expresses, ‘This is the only opportunity for Americans to overthrow the bureaucratic system, with bureaucrats at the helm, and reintroduce democracy, where the people dictate terms.’ He continues, ‘We’re not going to get another opportunity like this.’
