Biden’s Wrong Stance on Immigration Highlighted by Florida Operations

A group of eight individuals was taken into state custody on charges related to immigration offenses in Indian River County, Florida. Additionally, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed at least 24 individuals under detention for further examination. This was part of an extensive joint operation led by the Florida Highway Patrol, in collaboration with federal immigration offices in Jefferson County. They rounded up a dozen individuals believed to be residing in the country without legal consent.

The operations in Florida offer a glimpse of a broader trend, which sees law enforcement agencies across the nation targeting individuals present in the country without appropriate documentation. As per the latest statistics, there have been over 1,000 arrests and more than 800 individuals have been ‘lodged’ or ‘booked’ on various grounds.

Among those in custody of ICE, there is a multitude of criminal histories; one of these detainees had been deported a whopping four times in the past. Another individual had pre-existing charges related to sex offenses, whilst a third was previously out on bail. There was also someone who had been booked for illegally using personal identification credentials.

In a notable operation, the Florida Highway Patrol joined efforts with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The joint operation took place in Jefferson County and resulted in detaining 12 people who were suspected of being illegal residents in Florida.

Adding to the roster of apprehended individuals was a group of more than 20 unauthorized Chinese nationals detained in South Florida. Personnel from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Coral Gables Police Department arrested this group.

The crucial breakthrough in this particular case came from an anonymous citizen, who tipped off the officials about cars suspected of moving these individuals around illegally. This noteworthy ‘interception’ of the Chinese nationals happened on Jan. 28, which, incidentally, was barely a week and a half after over 20 other migrants were detained in Coral Gables. Out of the earlier group, three individuals now face charges related to human smuggling.

In light of these events, it’s worth reflecting on the Biden administration’s record on immigration policies. Back in 2024, the administration was responsible for releasing 315 illegal residents back onto the streets of Florida; the worst part being, the majority of these individuals were violent offenders. Such a stance by the Biden administration only served to make the lives of law-abiding citizens more dangerous.

To add insult to injury, mere days after Florida lawmakers attempted to pass anti-illegal immigration legislation, Governor Ron DeSantis declared he would block the bill. With the words, ‘the veto pen is ready,’ DeSantis put a firm stop to the state legislature’s attempts to reinforce immigration laws.

The proposed legislation, known as the ‘Tackling and Reforming Unlawful Migration Policy’, or the TRUMP Act was intended to bolster the legal structure dealing with illegal immigration. However, it was subsequently trashed by DeSantis.

One of the bill’s controversial proposals was intending to appoint the state’s agriculture commissioner as the chief immigration enforcement officer. The incumbent commissioner at that time was Trilby egg farmer and former state senator Wilton Simpson.

Unfortunately, this move was seen as an infringement on the governor’s ‘supreme executive power’ granted by the state constitution, according to his followers. Some interpreted this as a politically motivated attack, while others viewed it as a straightforward measure to tackle the issue of illegal immigration in Florida.
