Border Czar Tom Homan didn’t hold back during a recent appearance on CNN’s “The Source,” where he sparred with host Kaitlan Collins over the Biden administration’s softened immigration enforcement policies and the Trump administration’s renewed focus on law and order at the border. The discussion became particularly heated when Collins questioned ICE’s operations in locations considered sensitive, such as schools, churches, and hospitals.
Collins suggested that enforcement actions in these areas might create a “chilling effect,” discouraging parents from participating in daily activities like dropping off their children at school. Homan firmly dismissed the premise, emphasizing the need to enforce immigration laws consistently and without exceptions for specific locations.
“Let me be clear,” Homan said. “The only people who should be concerned about ICE enforcement at schools or anywhere else are individuals who are breaking the law—especially those posing national security or public safety threats. Law-abiding parents have nothing to fear.”
Homan went further, addressing concerns about so-called “safe havens” for illegal immigrants. “National security threats and public safety threats don’t get to hide behind the walls of a school or a church. If someone is here illegally and breaking the law, we will go where we need to go to enforce the laws of this nation.”
This direct approach underscores the administration’s commitment to restoring robust immigration enforcement. Under President Trump’s directives, ICE has expanded operations to target not just violent offenders but also individuals with prior removal orders, ensuring that federal immigration laws are applied uniformly.
Homan’s remarks reflect a broader shift away from policies implemented during the Biden administration that limited ICE’s scope of operations in sensitive locations. He characterized those policies as ineffective and dangerous, allowing individuals who pose threats to public safety to remain at large.
Critics of stricter immigration enforcement argue that such actions create fear in immigrant communities and disrupt families. However, supporters, including Homan, contend that enforcing immigration laws uniformly is essential for upholding national sovereignty and ensuring public safety.
Homan ended the interview by doubling down on the administration’s stance. “We don’t pick and choose which laws to enforce based on feelings or locations. Our job is to protect this country, and we will do it without apology.”
As the Trump administration ramps up immigration enforcement efforts, this exchange serves as a clear signal of its priorities: strict adherence to federal laws and a no-tolerance approach to illegal immigration.
