Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, a prominent orthopedic surgeon and husband of “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, has been named among nearly 200 defendants in a federal lawsuit alleging widespread insurance fraud.
The lawsuit, filed by American Transit Insurance Company in December, accuses Dr. Hostin of performing fraudulent medical procedures, including arthroscopic surgeries, and submitting falsified insurance claims. It further alleges that he received kickbacks disguised as dividends or other financial distributions.
American Transit, which primarily insures drivers for rideshare services like Uber and Lyft, contends that insurance fraud is rampant in New York State due to its No-Fault law.
Dr. Hostin’s attorney, Daniel Thwaites, has vehemently denied the allegations, describing the lawsuit as a “blanket, scattershot, meritless” action by an insurance carrier attempting to intimidate healthcare providers. Thwaites emphasized Dr. Hostin’s impeccable professional record and criticized the insurer for allegedly abusing the legal system to evade its obligations.
Sunny Hostin, known for her role on “The View” and her background as a federal prosecutor, has been married to Dr. Hostin since 1998. The couple has two children.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the Hostin family faces increased public scrutiny. The case highlights ongoing concerns about insurance fraud and the complexities of the healthcare system in New York State.
