Alabama police lieutenant Mark Meadows, 60, tragically lost his life on Monday, January 6, 2025, after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic outside the Church of the Highlands’ main campus in Irondale. The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. as Meadows was setting out cones at the intersection during the church’s “21 Days of Prayer” event. He was transported to Grandview Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meadows had been a dedicated member of the Irondale Police Department for over 30 years and was highly regarded in the community. Irondale Mayor James Stewart Jr. described him as a “treasured member” of the city’s family, noting his exemplary public service and leadership by example. The Church of the Highlands’ lead pastor, Chris Hodges, expressed profound sorrow, acknowledging Meadows’ nearly 18 years of service with the church and considering him part of their family.
The driver involved in the incident, a 32-year-old man operating a Chevrolet Colorado, remained at the scene. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Meadows is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His passing has elicited condolences from various community leaders, including Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, who expressed her sympathies to Meadows’ family, the Irondale Police Department, and the Church of the Highlands community.
