An 18-year-old resident of Clifton was arrested by the NYPD on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm. Named Zaquan Harris, he resides on Park Hill Avenue in the 200 block. His arrest took place on a Saturday, following accusations of him possessing a loaded firearm, which was supposedly located on Park Hill Avenue’s 140 block. The incident in question happened post 8 p.m. on November 30, divulged by the law enforcement.
The seized firearm, painted in black, had seven rounds of artillery contained within it. Police reports stated that the weapon has North Carolina origins and was apparently taken unlawfully from there. A second weapon, coloured in purple, was also found at the site while Harris was being arrested. The exact origin or legal status of the second firearm, however, wasn’t immediately disclosed by the law enforcement agency.
Charges under which Harris is currently held include criminal possession of a firearm and stolen goods. Alongside the illegal possession, the origin of the weapons, particularly the black one, allegedly connected Harris with an act of theft, hence the additional charges. These offenses have placed Harris in a precarious legal position, the proceedings of which are likely to unfold in the coming days.
Knowledge of the arrest and the context came to light when the 120th Precinct’s X account posted a recognition tweet. The tweet acknowledged the steadfast dedication and unyielding efforts of the officers working in the 120 precinct. Besides patrol officers, the field intelligence detectives were also named for their contributions in ensuring community safety by removing illegal firearms from the streets.
Besides the officers and detectives on ground operations, other teams of the Patrol Borough of Staten Island were also commended for their supportive roles in this context. The community response team was specifically mentioned due to the significant part played by them in these operations. Their role in combating illegal firearms in the community and ensuring public safety is instrumental.
Radio transmissions made in the initial phases of the operation mentioned a request for aviation support. This suggests that the police investigation team considered the possibility of a wide search area, perhaps expecting Harris to attempt to escape or hide. The aviation assistance was believed to be pivotal in the hunt for Zaquan Harris, as per preliminary investigations.
