A fugitive, warrant issued by the New York State Parole, was recently apprehended in the quaint Village of New Hartford and subsequently found himself embroiled in serious allegations linked with felony drug possession.
The sequence of events unrolled on the evening of November 27th, around half past eleven, when the New Hartford Police Department was alerted about a suspected person identified by parole authorities as a person of interest.
The individual at the center of this matter was identified as 39-year-old Kareem Thomas, a resident of Utica, currently under parole following a past conviction associated with a murder offense.
Thomas came into the spotlight of law enforcement after suspicions arose suggesting a possible infringement of the conditions laid down in his parole.
Upon tracking Thomas to a local establishment, parole authorities made their move. His immediate reaction saw him try to evade arrest by initiating an unsuccessful attempt to exfiltrate on foot.
In a whirlwind of events, Thomas managed to navigate his path through the chaotic situation and reached his vehicle, in hopes of making quick his escape.
However, the vigilant officers, anticipating his plan, acted swiftly thus thwarting his attempted escapade. With no avenue for escape, Thomas found himself trapped in his own vehicle.
The situation escalated at this point, resulting in multiple charges being levied against the already troubled Thomas, and drawing him deeper into the criminal justice system.
Among the charges, Thomas was implicated with, falls the serious offense of felony criminal possession of a controlled substance purportedly for distribution purposes.
In addition to this, lesser yet serious charges were slapped against him, these include impaired driving due to the influence of alcohol, driving while intoxicated, and, notably, refusal to submit to breathalyzer testing.
The subsequent course of action saw Thomas being escorted to the Oneida County Jail by law enforcement officials to await his formal arraignment.
While currently held in confinement awaiting his day in court, Thomas faces not only the aforementioned charges but also the possible repercussions of violation of his parole warrant.
As he waits for the judicial gears to turn, his future hangs in the balance, contingent on the decisions of the court, all stemming from that fateful night in the serene Village of New Hartford.
