A close ally of President-elect Donald Trump issued a stark warning to New York Attorney General Letitia James, signaling that the new administration will not tolerate what it views as politically motivated legal actions against Trump. Mike Davis, founder of the Article III Project — a conservative advocacy group — made his bold remarks on “The Benny Show” podcast on Thursday.
“I dare you to try to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term,” Davis said, addressing James directly. “Listen here, sweetheart. We’re not messing around this time, and we will put your fat a– in prison for conspiracy against rights. I promise you that.”
Davis, who is being considered for a top legal role in the Trump administration, such as Attorney General or White House Counsel, didn’t mince words when discussing potential legal battles. He urged James to “think long and hard” before attempting to undermine the president-elect’s constitutional rights or the rights of any other Americans. “It’s not going to happen again,” Davis declared, emphasizing a tougher stance in Trump’s second term.
The comments come in response to Letitia James’ own statements following Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. James, 66, vowed to “use the rule of law to fight back” against the incoming administration, stating that her office has been preparing for months to counter Trump’s policies and legal strategies.
James has already made headlines with her high-profile legal battles against Trump. Earlier this year, she secured a $454 million civil fraud judgment against the 78-year-old businessman, accusing him of inflating his net worth to secure favorable loan and insurance terms. Trump has since appealed the ruling, but the legal fight between the two appears far from over.
Davis, who previously served as Chief Counsel for Nominations to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), argued that James could be in violation of federal law, specifically citing 18 U.S.C. § 241 — the statute concerning “conspiracy against rights.” He contended that if James continues her legal pursuits against Trump, she could face severe legal repercussions herself.
“I can imagine that the Trump 47 Justice Department is not going to have any patience for this Democrat lawfare over the next four years,” Davis said in an interview with Newsmax. He underscored his belief that legal actions targeting political enemies would not be tolerated under Trump’s leadership.
In a lighthearted response to speculation that he might serve as White House Counsel, Davis quipped on X, “No, thank you. I want to serve as the Viceroy,” hinting at his preference for a more powerful or influential role.
The escalating rhetoric highlights the brewing tension between Trump’s allies and legal opponents as the nation braces for what could be a contentious and legally fraught second term for the president-elect.
