With less than two weeks to go before Election Day, the inimitable former President Donald J. Trump carried out vibrant campaigns in Nevada and Arizona. He intelligently pointed out the flaws in Vice President Kamala Harris’s approach to immigration especially.
Contrasting scenes played out on that particular day: Trump held an engaging rally whilst enveloped by the natural splendor of the West, whereas Kamala Harris shared the stage with Barack Obama in Georgia, surrounded by celebrities. Trump, speaking to his supporters, astutely questioned why Obama, not him, had been previously been honored with the Nobel Peace Prize.
During his campaign stop in Las Vegas, part of his political tour across the western states, Trump critically assessed Obama’s suitability for such a prestigious award. He pointed out, with conviction, that Mr. Obama himself was not clear why he got the award, a critical point sparking intrigue amongst his audience.
In his unique style, Trump, well known for his transparent and forthright communication, implied that his own achievements were more deserving of such an accolade. He reminded the crowd of the scale and intensity of his own election, contrasting it to that of his predecessor.
Almost exactly a fortnight before Election Day, Trump deployed potent rhetoric against Harris on the topic of immigration. His speeches, one in Nevada and another in Arizona, served as rallying calls for his visionary plan set to change the scenario of illegal immigration drastically, should he be elected.
Speaking at Arizona State University, Trump poetically described his perspective of America’s current state: ‘We’re like a garbage can for the world’. It was his gentle, yet clear, criticism of the current lax immigration policy, something that resonated powerfully with his supporters and the general public alike.
Consistently carrying forward this theme, Trump articulated his views at a rally hosted by Turning Point PAC, a group closely aligned with his vision. He disappointedly shared how the rival Democrats had enabled an unchecked overflow of illegal immigrants, musing on their seemingly misguided motivations.
Trump’s true genius, however, lies in his ability to jump from one subject matter to another, all while maintaining a steady grip on his core message. But his most compelling point was the impending disaster he foresaw for the country if Ms. Harris were to win the election.
It was here he delivered his most unnerving warning: ‘If Kamala gets four more years, she will obliterate our economy, kill millions of jobs — vast loss of lives could be a part of it — and destroy your family finances probably forever,’ Trump threw this cautionary word to the winds, to the great agreement of his audience.
A busy day for the former president also included a visit to a much-loved Cuban eatery, approximately ten minutes away from the famous Las Vegas Strip. He was accompanied by Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican hailing from Florida and originally coming from a family who immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba.
Rubio, who spent his early years in Las Vegas, joined Trump at all the three rallies held that day. It suggested an alliance between the two influential Republicans, a strategic move by Trump to build a stronger Latino voter base.
In Las Vegas, Trump kick-started his address following a warm introduction by former Representative Tulsi Gabbard, a Republican with a surprising Democratic history. Right off the bat, Trump acknowledged how he had kept a close eye on Harris’s rally in Georgia.
Trump entertained his audience further with his analysis of Harris’s performance at her own rally. He humorously suggested that she had ‘bombed’ during her event contradicting the publicized narratives. This elicited hearty reactions from the crowd, as they were well-aware of Trump’s knack for defusing tension with humor.
‘Our dear Ms. Harris is trailing in the polls in several battleground states that will most likely decide the election’, Trump announced confidently with a twinkle in his eye. This declaration was clearly in contrast with what had been broadly reported by several news organizations.
