In September alone, the region along the southern border was a passage for about 101,790 illegal crossings. The FY2024 has seen unprecedented numbers of migrant encounters, summing up to over 2.1 million at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Representative Stephanie Bice, the GOP member from Oklahoma, scrutinized the scenarios saying, ‘This indicates that there have been over 10.8 million unsanctioned crossings nationwide since the inception of the Biden & Harris era. Additionally, encounters with 390 individuals from the terrorist watchlist and imminent escape of 2 million individuals portray a sad state of affairs.’
The repercussions of the latest released data from CBP were magnified by Rep. Jodey Arrington from Texas. Arrington didn’t mince words while addressing Harris’s role when he said, ‘CBP’s disconcerting data forces us to realize the stark reality of regarding Harris’s performance as the Border Czar as not just subpar, but evidently, an utter failure.’
The critique regarding Harris’s execution of duties as the ‘border czar’ was also shared by Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart from Florida. He stressed on the disturbing statistics of illegal immigration under her watch – OVER 10.8 million unlawful crossings on a national scale, OVER 8.7 million unpleasant encounters at our southern border.
According to Díaz-Balart, ‘OVER 390 known terrorists were detected. There is no denying that this negligence on the part of Harris has led to a substantial compromise on the safety of American lives and our national security.’ From the perspective of the Republican party, this situation prevails due to her incompetence in fulfilling her responsibilities adequately.
The latest figures from the CPB also evoked a response from Rep. John James, a Michigan Republican. He criticized the inability of the Harris and Biden administration to deport an overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants. In his words, ‘Harris and Biden, despite being in charge, have allowed 99.7% of illegal immigrants to remain unremoved.’
Sen. James Lankford from Oklahoma also reverberated with the sentiment, going as far as highlighting that the count of people illegally crossing into our country under the Biden-Harris Administration has broken all previous records. In the lawmaker’s view, there is an additional issue – ‘we are unaware of the whereabouts of numerous entrants.’
Lankford, who was a part of the team that brokered the border deal in the Senate but failed to gain consensus this year, is quite vocal about the Biden administration’s lukewarm attitude about border security. He accused the Biden administration of a lackadaisical approach to already lax border security.
