Biden’s Lack of Preparedness Leads To High Cost in Hurricane Milton Aftermath

Joe Biden

Contrary to bizarre speculations, the government certainly doesn’t harness the power to manipulate the weather, nor intensify hurricanes like Milton and Helene. Rather, deviation from normal climatic patterns, primarily climate change, answers how these hurricanes got their ferocity. Of late, Hurricanes Helene and Milton have stirred an uncomfortable amount of unverified information throwing shade at the severity of these natural disasters and our government’s handling thereof. This melt of misinformation is particularly putting FEMA personnel, stationed at the hardest-hit states like North Carolina, in dangerous situations.

The Sunshine State, Florida, grappling with the aftermath of consecutive hurricanes, has become the center of nationwide contemplation. As officials tirelessly work to quantify the extent of damage inflicted, we begin piecing together a narrative of the impact and repercussions of Hurricane Milton. Sweeping through Florida, Milton left behind an ugly tableau of tickers reminding us of its power, from twisted houses, flood-induced mayhem, to demolished coastal properties.

As you may know, the Floridians are engaged in a daunting cleanup effort after Milton’s barreling visit. And in the middle of this turmoil, the Federal Emergency Management Agency set foot at an exceedingly challenging time. Milton’s advent, by no means, held an opportune moment for Florida, notoriously known for its susceptibility to severe weather events.

The forecasters at one point had warned the Floridians of a looming ‘catastrophe’ as the hurricane threatened to hit late Wednesday as a major hurricane. Hurricane Milton indeed wrote itself down as an infamously potent storm, battering the coastal state with its tenacious gusts and sea surge.

Another spectacle of these climate tantrums was the wrath of Hurricane Helene, which batter Western North Carolina surprisingly hard. This region is notably far from Florida’s coastal areas, where the hurricane, ramped up to Category 4 intensity, made its initial landfall. None had anticipated such extensive damage this far from the eye of the storm.

Hurricane Helene started from the Gulf Coast of Florida, intruded its way through the Southeast, and stood responsible for life-threatening rainfall and flooding in parts of Georgia and the Carolinas. It fitted into the unfortunate narrative of devastation common to this season. The primary victims were the power grid and the people residing in these states – they had to endure power outages that affected millions and, sadly, deaths of numerous people were reported.

The marks left by Helene are record-shattering, as far as the destruction and its resulting floods are concerned. As if on a warpath, the hurricane cemented itself as one of the most expensive storms in the annals of US history. It’s an alarming fact that should skeptics doubt the impacts of climate change.

Preliminary forecasts from the experts at the National Hurricane Center had already pointed to disaster, anticipating that Helene would make a grand entrance as a major hurricane at the Florida’s Gulf. It’s always a letdown to see these harsh predictions come to fruition.

Residents and communities are left to grapple with the damage in Hurricane Milton’s wake. The struggle is palpably real, as they begin to understand the extent of loss and find the best ways forward in undoubtedly tough circumstances.

Certain industries face an element of uncertainty, none more so than Florida’s citrus industry. The tendrils of Hurricane Milton’s path wreaked havoc on the citrus groves, leading to potential losses for the farmers. It seems that the road to recovery for this ‘Sunshine State’s’ citrus industry is shrouded in gloomy mist owing to Milton’s ill-timed visit.

Sadly, Milton didn’t leave the sporting community unscathed. Among the notable casualties is Graham Mertz, the Florida quarterback, who suffered an ACL injury in his left leg during the seventh week’s game against Tennessee. His injury was so severe that his season, and thus his college career, screeched to an unfortunate halt.
