In a tragic event unfolding in a grocery store’s parking region, a man of 38 years met with a fatal outcome, according to law enforcement details. The implicated individuals, namely Francisco Corocoj, 25, and Manuel Perez, 49, both residents of 180 West 135th Street, Manhattan, are now facing charges associated with first-degree manslaughter, a second-degree attack, coupled with two accusations for unlawful possession of weapon.
These legal allegations arise from a horrendous incident that transpired on the evening of September 18, 2024. The setting of the shocking incident was the parking area of a local retail establishment – Shop Rite Supermarket – situated at 1080 McDonald Avenue, falling under the jurisdiction of the 66th Precinct.
As per the law enforcement reports, around 7:00 p.m, two unsuspecting individuals, aged 42 and 38, were ambushed while they were reclining in the parking premises. Their attackers, brandishing metallic rods and a baseball bat, launched an unprompted and violent assault against them.
The assailants targeted the victims ruthlessly, invoking intense bodily harm with their repeated strikes. These injurious attacks resulted in the victims suffering from numerous lacerations and bruises all over their bodies.
The elder of the victims, the 42-year-old man, endured numerous abrasions to his head and other parts of the body. He was instantly transported to Maimonides Medical Center where he received immediate medical attention. After undergoing treatment, he was discharged from the hospital in a stable health condition.
The younger victim, a man of 38 years, was also rushed to the same medical center subsequent to the assault. However, his medical condition rapidly deteriorated due to serious internal hemorrhage.
Despite the best efforts of the medical professionals at Maimonides, the condition of the 38-year-old victim worsened, and he was declared deceased on October 2. The abrupt loss of the man has left a profound impact on him family and community.
In the aftermath of his demise, an evaluation was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Based on the investigation performed, the examiner’s office conclusively announced the cause of death as homicide.
With the official declaration, New York’s Police Department (NYPD) is now making earnest efforts to identify and locate the responsible individuals for this heinous act. As the pursuit to bring justice for the deceased man continues, the department has sought public contribution in this case.
The department has urged anyone with any significant information or even the slightest lead to step forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. NYPD firmly believes that collective collaborative efforts can potentially lead to crucial breakthroughs in such cases.
