A distressing incident unfolded in a Bronx-based grocery store when an unsettled woman forcibly took money from a young boy’s hand, further getting into a scuffle with his mother, as per the local police report and security footage. The boy, who is just 7 years old, was at the time purchasing fruit at a neighborhood store named Richard’s Fruit and Vegetable. This store is situated on Jerome Avenue, close to Marcy Place in the Mount Eden vicinity. The incident took place around 11:40 a.m. on the 24th of September.
The woman, conspicuous due to her burgundy-colored hair, rudely snatched the bills from the hands of the little boy, the authority reported. A security video gathered from the shop provides clear evidence of this disheartening act. The video shows her pulling the money away from the youngster and subsequently striking his mother. The mother, aged 38, was at the scene with another infant in a stroller when the confrontation escalated.
Disturbingly, the burgundy-haired woman didn’t stop at stealing cash from the young boy. As the boy’s mother tried to intervene, the offender took physical action against her too. According to police reports, when the mother tried to stop her, she responded with violence, punching her right in the face, causing the situation to turn graver.
Further video footage depicts the suspect dressed in grey and black athletic attire. After her strange and disquieting act, she fled the scene of the crime. She was seen running in the northerly direction towards East 170 Street. The police account has reported these details in their pursuit of the suspect.
The mother, after being struck, received immediate care at the place of the incident itself. The city’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) treated her at the scene. As per the police statement, the EMS was quick to administer first aid to the mother who was injured during the scuffle with the assailant.
In an utterly disheartening revelation, it was discovered that the boy had lost around $4 in change due to this savagery. The co-proprietor of Richard’s Fruits and Vegetables, Erick Vidals, who is 44 years old, verified this loss. His establishment has operated as a family-owned business for over 27 years and has never witnessed such a horrifying incident.
The co-owner expressed deep shock and dismay over the whole episode. ‘It was absolutely startling at that time, I must say, principally because I’m also a parent’, Vidals confessed as he reviewed the security footage, showing the horrid event unfold in his longtime family business.
Vidals has also stated that he had noticed the woman in question loitering in the vicinity multiple times before this incident. She was often seen engaging locals, asking them for money around his store but he had never seen her don such striking hair color. He further added that it was an unexpected and distressing sight – a woman, who was apparently familiar to the folks around, committing such an act.
