Louisiana’s House Speaker, Mike Johnson, had an extended discussion with the previous President, Donald Trump right in the wake of a serious threat to Trump’s on a late Sunday. Johnson was particularly impressed with Trump’s capability to bounce back, expressing, ‘He is absolutely unique in his resilience.’
Johnson, accompanied by his wife Kelly during the meeting, aired his thoughts on Fox & Friends the next day. ‘As expected, he was upbeat and positive,’ conveyed Johnson about Trump’s demeanor. ‘His ability to stay unfazed in challenging times is commendable. It was inspiring to see him in such spirit.’
He stressed, ‘No American leader has been as fiercely challenged, yet maintained strength and resilience as he did. He is truly unparalleled. His unwavering commitment to the American people and their welfare is commendable.’
Engaging in a prolonged discussion with Trump, he and Kelly were struck by the fact that Trump had been spared from life-threatening situations twice now. Johnson candidly expressed, ‘It reminds me of our first President, George Washington, often referred to as bulletproof- a man who famously escaped harm during his tenure as an army colonel in the French and American Indian War. The striking similarity of the instance wherein Trump was shot at a public event in Butler, Pennsylvania, which ironically happened less than 50 miles from Washington’s close encounter, is hard to overlook. These are not mere coincidences or a case of good luck; I consider it the workings of divine providence, a topic we broached during our conversation.’
Johnson also shed light on the information he was privy to from the Acting Director of the Secret Service during the time of their meeting. ‘Those officers who accompanied Trump at the time noticed a firearm concealed amid the bushes while they were on a golf course. It was indeed a critical aspect to identify, and thankfully, they did.’
Spotting the gun, Johnson said, ‘Unlike in Butler, they didn’t hesitate; they promptly drew their weapons and opened fire. I believe this immediate defensive action was the reason why the suspect was forced to drop his weapon and flee. If not for their alertness and rapid response, the circumstances could have turned disastrous.’
Asserting his conviction about President Trump’s need for protection, Johnson stated, ‘Being the most targeted and perpetually under threat, he deserves the highest level of security, more so than during his time in office. Consequently, we advocate in the House for all possible resources to be made available for his protection. Should the need arise, we are committed to making further provisions. The primary concern here is not one of funding but rather the efficient allocation of manpower.’
Responding to Brian Kilmeade’s criticism about the prerequisite of a college degree for Secret Service recruitment, Johnson suggested amending certain rules to allow highly trained individuals, like Navy Seals, into the service in their early 30s.
Post the serious security breach in Butler, Pennsylvania, Johnson assembled a task force which will provide recommendations. He assured, ‘Having immediate and decisive action from Congress is paramount. It’s essential that our leaders are held accountable and we ensure this duty is carried out efficiently. The current leadership scenario is troubling. My faith in Secretary Mayorkas from the Department of Homeland Security is dwindling. Despite his impeachment in the House, the order was dismissed in the Senate due to Chuck Schumer, leading to our current predicament.’
