Series of Shootings Near Grand Concourse Leaves Community in Mourning

A series of separate shootings occurred in quick succession overnight, culminating in the loss of life and multiple injuries, according to local law enforcement agencies. Within a short span of three hours, three shootings were reported, all in close proximity to each other. This disturbing series of events follows closely on the trail of two lethal shootings occurring within the same vicinity earlier in the week.

Slightly before the stroke of midnight, law enforcement reported a 42-year-old male who narrowly escaped a bullet to the head. This occurred in a grocery store located near the intersection of 180th and the Grand Concourse. The bullet flew wide, merely grazing the man’s head, and subsequently shattering the store’s front door.

Approximately half an hour before this incident, another shooting had transpired on Williamsbridge Road, a stone’s throw from the Jacobi Medical Center. The unfortunate victim this time was a 44-year-old man who suffered a gunshot to his chest. Treatment was promptly initiated at the nearby hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Authorities on the scene of the incident on Williamsbridge Road postulated that the assailant may have made a quick escape in a white sports utility vehicle. However, this theory is yet to be confirmed as the investigation unfolds.

The initial shooting of this grim series happened at around 9:30 p.m. The incident took place so close to the Grand Concourse, hardly a corner away from where the subsequent gunfire occurred just before midnight. The police were called in response to this incident.

A young man of 24 found himself at the peril end of this incident. Wounded several times in the back, he was quickly discovered by the authorities on Anthony Avenue. Despite prompt medical attention, the man could not sustain his grievous injuries and was declared dead.

Up till the present moment, the events of these Friday night shootings have yet to be connected to any suspects. The law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice.

This series of shootings conjures bitter reminders of earlier losses in the same week. Only days before, 35-year-old Juan Lluverez’s life was tragically cut short on East Burnside and Jerome Avenue, in the wake of gunfire.

The very next day, another man fell victim to this dangerous wave of crime. Rafael Vasquez, aged 32, was fatally wounded in a shooting mishap. Like Lluverez, Vasquez did not survive the injuries sustained from the shooting.

As a testament to the life and contributions of Juan Lluverez, a memorial has taken shape on East Burnside. Loved ones and community members have come together to honor his memory and lament the profound loss.

Close family members of Lluverez have expressed their grief and shared glimpses of Juan’s life and aspirations to News 4. According to them, Juan was known for his industrious nature and was anticipating a visit to the Dominican Republic in the near future.

Moreover, Lluverez was looking forward to the next chapter of his life with optimism. He envisioned starting his own family and had laid the foundations for a bright and promising future. His tragic and untimely demise has left a void his family and friends find hard to fill.
