Election Campaign Turned Dangerous: Armed Assault on Republican Aspirant

A Republican from Las Vegas, planning for an election run, was assaulted by an armed thief during daytime hours while he was setting up his own campaign placards. 67-year-old Stanley Vaughan was engrossed in installing posters on Pecos Road for his political journey to a State Assembly seat on August 29 when an individual neared and asked for his wallet.

‘It startled me when I swung around, and that’s when he lunged at me,’ stated Stanley Vaughan, the US Army veteran. ‘Acting purely on instinct, I kicked him and he took off running.’ Stanley Vaughan, a representative of the Republican party, bidding for a state position in Nevada was targeted by a thug brandishing a knife as he assembled his campaign signs.

The ordeal ended with Vaughan suffering from a forearm laceration, which was medically treated at home by his wife, who is a practitioner in nursing. ‘I hastily got into the car, only then did I notice I was bleeding,’ he shared, mentioning how his wife, leveraging her professional nursing skills, took care of his injury.

As a result of the attack, Vaughan was left with a serious slash on his forearm, a wound that stays under bandages even now. The political aspirant believes his attacker might have been living on the streets based on his unkempt and shabby appearance. Vaughan vowed to make sure that he doesn’t put up campaign signs solo in the future.

Regardless of the incident, the Republican representative from Silver State is unwavering in his election run for Assembly District 20. This unsettling episode underlines his relentless efforts to help mitigate local crime rate, a cause he is passionate about due to his role as a security and police liaison in his community’s homeowners association.

Stanley stated he remains dedicated to his campaigning cause, although he has decided to refrain from putting up signs on his own. David Orentlicher, the serving Assemblyman that Vaughan is contesting against, voiced his disapproval of the attack and expressed his sympathy for his opponent.

‘The news about Mr. Vaughan’s attack deeply concerns and saddens me, and I hope for his swift recovery,’ commented Assemblyman Orentlicher in an official statement. ‘Everyone is entitled to feel secure in our neighborhoods, and I am determined to continue the effort to help deter crime across the entirety of Nevada.’

‘I trust that the law enforcement agencies will ensure that those responsible for this act are held to account,’ he continued. In an official statement, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police highlighted that this stabbing incident is an isolated crime, and there appears to be no link between the suspect and other criminal activities in the neighbourhood.
