During her first interview as the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris was challenged by host Dana Bash about the timing of new asylum restrictions, implemented over three years into their term. Harris also blamed Trump for obstructing border security legislation in the Senate, although this bill faced broad Republican opposition, primarily due to concerns it would normalize illegal immigration.
