An individual from Baltimore County has been apprehended and indicted with an attempted homicide charge in the wake of a vehicular shooting occurrence in Howard County earlier in the month. Identified as Quwan Gordon, a 48-year-old resident of Owings Mills, the suspect was taken into custody at his domicile on August 13, 2024, according to statements from the Maryland State authorities. Without any reported disturbances, Gordon was apprehended without any further complications.
The accused is confronted with a myriad of charges, amongst them attempted murder, utilizing a firearm while perpetrating a serious crime, and other offenses closely linked to these transgressions. These accusations were instigated by an event that transpired a day prior to Gordon’s arrest, specifically on August 12, 2024.
The official responder to the incident was a team of Maryland State Troopers who reported to a dispatch call regarding a shooting incident on Interstate 95 in Howard County. The aggrieved parties interacting with the police communicated that another vehicle was involved in the shooting during a road rage encounter. The other motorist was identified as driving a white Volkswagen.
Upon reaching the location of the reported incident, troopers noticed the victim’s vehicle demonstrating signs of a shooting, further corroborating the victims’ account. The shooting was indeed serious, as bullets had found their way to the car’s passenger compartment. Amidst the spectacle of the shooting, it remains a relief to note that the victims were spared from bodily harm.
To provide further context to the story, the Maryland State Police Crime Scene Unit embarked on a detailed investigation during which they successfully extracted projectiles from the victims’ car. This formed a crucial part of their investigative procedures and significantly helped in providing substantial evidence for the case.
The investigation reached a significant milestone once investigators were able to zero in on a white Volkswagen – the same description given by the victims. Tracing this vehicle led them to one person – Quwan Gordon.
In pursuing the case further, the officers initiated a comprehensive search of Gordon’s residence in Owings Mills, as well as his vehicle. The resultant search yielded a significant cache of evidence. A loaded handgun was discovered and seized, a finding that would solidify the attempted murder charge. Additionally, large amounts of substances with a high likelihood of being MDMA and fentanyl were also seized – setting the stage for additional charges against Gordon.
Adding complexity to Gordon’s legal situation, he has an earlier record of felonious convictions that prohibit him from owning or possessing any type of firearms. Therefore, the discovery of a loaded handgun from his possession results in more legal trouble for him and contributes towards fortifying the charges already levied.
In the immediate aftermath, Gordon was slapped with additional charges related to firearm and drug violations. This was courtesy of the evidence found during the initial search process at his residence.
Additional evidence attributed to Gardner during an extended investigation by Maryland State Police, tied him directly to the scene of the I-95 highway incident. It was these findings that led to discussions with the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office and subsequently led to the additional charges of attempted murder and associated offenses.
The formal indictment against Gordon was made on August 23, 2024, further emphasizing the severity and implications of his actions. As of the last update provided, Gordon finds himself in custody, specifically in the Baltimore County Detention Center, without the option of bail.
In their communication surrounding the incident, the Maryland State Police made it clear it was committed to preventing firearm-related violence on Maryland’s highways. They used this case to make a strong statement about their dedication to making the state’s roads safer for motorists and pedestrians alike.
There was a clear call to road users to foster safety by not engaging in or promoting any form of aggressive driving. Additionally, the emphasis was laid down on the necessity to strictly adhere to the various traffic regulations that have been put in place. It was a clear reminder that following legal obligations was not just about avoiding charges, but also about ensuring the safety of everyone on the road.
While the Gordon case was being handled, Maryland’s authorities clarified that they were concurrently pursuing further unrelated investigations. The police are actively investigating other incidents and pursuing leads with the aim of bringing wrongdoers to justice.
The public was also encouraged to aid in any way they can – especially in providing information on any similar violent highway incidents. Any individuals with knowledge or information about any such crimes were urged to reach out to local authorities.
