In a disturbing incident last month, a 62-year-old inhabitant of Staten Island decided to pull up stakes and relocate following a violent altercation with a group of rowdy teenagers as he was taking his customary evening walk, as mentioned in recent news updates.
The unfortunate incident happened as he was strolling near the crossroads of Howard Avenue and Clove Road, situated in the Sunnyside neighborhood—it had just gone seven in the evening of July 15. The seemingly unruly youth started to pester and taunt the unsuspecting gentleman.
Secured public surveillance systems strategically placed around the area recorded the shocking episode. A total of nine young individuals were seen tailing the man as he proceeded down the avenue, videos gathered by silive.com reveal.
Out of nowhere, one of these teenage miscreants rushed towards the man from behind. This prompted the man to evade into the bustling traffic to steer clear from the gang—in return, the rest of the group embarked on a chase across the street.
In defense, the man stated to NBC New York, ‘I raised my fists and boldly said, ‘Pick one’. However, I added, ‘Not interested’. I thought it was probably a kid pulling a prank. I don’t have a clear idea if this somehow incited them—I can’t be sure—but they seemed to be on the lookout for trouble.’
Adding to the puzzlement, the elderly man noted that the group, who were laughing throughout, didn’t try to rob him or pass any unsavoury comments—providing no clear motive for the beating he received. The confrontation escalated when a few members of the group began to punch at the man, who attempted to flee the scene.
Sadly, the attack did not cease with his exit from the camera view. He was left battered—with notable bruises adorning his knee and requiring a number of stitches on his finger. Upon their realization of approaching help for the wounded man, the attacking youth hastily absconded the scene.
Subsequently, he was admitted to the Richmond University Medical Center located in West Brighton. The medical assistance required due to the injuries inflicted upon him amounted to approximately $5,000—information garnered from silive.com.

Observing the circulated recordings of the turmoil, Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella reported having watched the group of ‘young individuals’ get off a bus and wandered aimlessly on Clove Street.
Speaking to silive.com, President Fossella called out the group for their actions, ‘They intentionally provoked and finally attacked an innocent bystander, landing him in the hospital.’ Again his finger was in bandages and his knee was bruised after he took off running from the camera.
The man was admitted to the Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton for medical attention. His medical bills amounted to roughly $5,000. ‘Truly tragic, he was merely enjoying a beautiful summer evening, mindfully strolling down the street when he was unexpectedly swamped by a bunch of individuals.’ President Fossella added.
‘In attempting to escape from the swarm, he ran across Clove Road—such a situation could have led to even more devastating outcomes, he could have been struck by oncoming traffic.’ The attack has caused the man to fear the outside world—to such extent that he now wishes to move home.
Putting an end to the tormenting storyline, NYPD made an arrest last week, detaining two minors in connection with the cruel July attack. The boys, aged 13 and 14, have been charged with the intent to inflict physical injury, as specified in a report by silive.com.
