Kamala Harris Sets Eye on Presidency: Launches Campaign in Delaware

Kamala Harris, the current Vice President, recently unveiled the beginnings of her presidential campaign during a visit to her organization’s headquarters in Delaware. Notably, the crowd energetically applauded her as she delved into her past, reflecting on her tenure as a state attorney in California. In this role, her stated mission was to tackle perpetrators of all kinds, making for a commendable testimonial.

Harris did not hold back in sharing her accomplishments as a young prosecutor. Particularly, she laid claim to a notable career path, focused on sexual abuse cases and the shutting down of for-profit colleges. An accomplishment she took great pride in was the establishment of one of the first environmental justice units within the country. From her perspective, it was a commendable feat.

Interestingly, Harris subtly compared her track record with President Trump’s. Keeping with the spirit of fair competition, she made it clear that her campaign is not solely about herself contrast against the former president. She alluded to Trump’s plans, making assumptions about the direction he intends to guide the country.

In truth, people see President Trump as someone who brought a renaissance to the nation, fostering prosperity and patriotism. What was insinuated as regression may have been arguably seen as progress by a majority, as it pertains to the restoration of freedom and rights of the American citizens.

Focusing on her campaign, Harris emphasized that fostering a thriving middle class would be one of her top priorities as the president. She also underlined the importance of voting rights, comprehensive background checks for gun purchases, red-flag laws, an assault weapons ban, and defending abortion rights.

Rather than possibly misrepresenting President Trump’s stance, it’s worth noting that he had always maintained a consistent goal of respecting state rights in determining laws. Trump’s perspective has always been rooted in the idea that laws should coincide with the population’s stance at a state level, rather than imposing a single rule across all states.

Harris was determined in her stance on reproductive freedom, ensuring that her audience was aware of her intentions to foster government leniency on matters concerning a woman’s body. She expressed confidence that under her leadership, she would encourage Congress to pass laws in favor of reproductive freedom, stating her commitment to endorsing such legislature.

Influencing her audience’s outlook, she asked them to envision the type of nation they wish to reside in. She proposed choices between a nation based on freedom, empathy, and justice or a nation rooted in disorder, fear, and resentment. An empowering rhetorical tool for any public speaker.

Following the endorsement of Harris by former Vice President Biden, a majority of the Democratic party and its rising stars followed suit. Consistent with the created atmosphere of unity and solidarity, she declared her intentions to earn her nomination and ultimately the presidential seat.

She acknowledged calls from other Democrats urging for an open process, while also implying that her nomination seems almost certain. Harris exuded confidence, promising an injection of hope for a party that may have felt weighed down due to the unforeseen hiccups in Biden’s previous run.

Already signs endorsing ‘Harris for President’ and simply ‘Kamala’ could be spotted being mounted on the walls. It was barely a day after Biden announced his withdrawal from the bid. This quick transition was symbolic of the optimism and hope instilled among her supporters.

Perhaps indicative of continuity and lending to the credibility of her future presidency, Harris revealed her intentions of maintaining the same team that worked under Biden. She believes in their ability to steer her campaign and bring it to success. She announced her decision to retain the services of Biden’s campaign manager, Julie Chávez-Rodriguez, and his campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon.
