Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced his plan to send over 1,100 law enforcement officers to the Texas-Mexico border. This move comes after announcing a similar move back in June 2021 which included roughly only 100 officers. DeSantis, who plans on running for president soon, stated in an online statement on Tuesday, “The impacts of Biden’s Border Crises are felt by communities across the nation, and the federal government’s abdication of duty undermines the sovereignty of our country and the rule of law.” He further added, “While Biden ignores the crisis he created, Florida stands ready to help Texas respond to this crisis.”
The governor and conservative leader made it clear that federal governing embodied by President Joe Biden lacks the will to enforce the law of the land. To support the mission of securing the country’s territorial and national integrity, DeSantis has deployed state agencies, such as law enforcement and the Florida National Guard, to Texas. The state will provide assets such as personnel, boats, and planes to help guard the border. The directive specifies that Florida plans to send 800 National Guard soldiers, 200 law enforcement officers, 101 state highway patrol troopers, 20 Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission agents, and 20 emergency management personnel. Moreover, the Florida Governor will be providing assistance and equipment in the form of five “fixed-wing aircraft with monitoring equipment and downlink capabilities with two aviation crew teams, two Mobile Command Vehicles and two command teams, 17 available unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and support teams, and 10 vessels ? including airboats, shallow draft vessels, and mid-range vessels.”
In lockstep with his efforts to strengthen the border, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement on Tuesday calling on governors nationwide to help bolster the border: “Join us in the mission to defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity and send all available law enforcement personnel and resources to the Texas-Mexico border to serve alongside our thousands of Texas National Guard soldiers and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.”
Title 42, which came about during the pandemic as a regulation authorizing border agents to reject asylum seekers at the Mexican-United States border to limit the spread of COVID-19 had expired on Thursday night. The move is expected to hurt the already laborious immigration system, with President Biden acknowledging an impending “chaotic” transition. However, according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, border crossings fell by nearly 50% since the expiration date. Consequently, Title 8, which bars deported migrants from re-entering the country for at least five years and risks jail time if entered illegally, CBS reported.
In a related matter, earlier this month, the Florida Republicans approved a bill that will allocate $12 million towards DeSantis’ migrant transport plans. This move aligns with his broader efforts of ramping up anti-immigration measures. Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador criticized DeSantis’ actions, saying, “Why does [DeSantis] have to take advantage of people’s pain, of migrants’ pain, of people’s need for political gain… this is immoral… now I found out that the Florida governor…is taking repressive, inhumane measures against migrants in Florida because he wants to be a [presidential] candidate. Can’t he not make another proposal to convince people?”
The governor’s effort to enhance border security and restrict illegal immigration was met with criticism from Democrats. The Democratic Hispanic Caucus further stated that “The recent policies implemented by the Republican-led Florida Legislature demonstrate Governor DeSantis’ preference for fear-mongering, promoting racial profiling, and damaging Florida’s economy, rather than supporting the state’s Hispanic population in their time of need.” The caucus added that this measure could slow economic growth, reduce the workforce, hurt small businesses, and drive up inflation, and deeply hurt international tourism.
It’s no secret that the southern border has been overrun for months. Fortunately, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has had enough of President Biden’s disregarding the crisis he created. Florida is standing by, ready to lend assistance to the state of Texas and to enforce the law of the land. DeSantis has taken a leadership position to handle the immigration crisis that has increased crime, burdened governments, and brought in drugs and human trafficking over our southern border.
Governor DeSantis’ Florida is committed to securing its border, and it’s very reassuring news for the conservative populace that he stands strong on this issue. He is advocating for those that are eager to see migrants’ plight and criminal activities come to an end. By sending 1100 of their best law enforcement, the Governor of Florida aims to bridge this gap between what the federal government is supposed to do and the work left undone.
By positioning law enforcement on the southern border, Governor DeSantis is proving that he is taking the threat of illegal immigration seriously. Republicans welcome this kind of action aiming to secure the border and keep hardworking Americans safe. It’s a gesture that speaks volumes that this Republican leader is determined in his mission to ensure that immigration laws are enforced.
The announcement comes at a time when criminal activities concerning illegal immigration are at an all-time high. The number one priority of elected officials should be the safety and security of its citizens. It’s refreshing to see a Governor who takes this matter seriously and willing to take this kind of action to ensure that we are not vulnerable to foreign nationals invading our country illegally.
This is an issue that has gone unaddressed for far too long, but the Governor of Florida and Governor of Texas are leading the way to stop illegal immigration activities. It is essential to take bold steps towards achieving this goal. Law enforcement work tirelessly to ensure that people are secure. Florida’s decision to lend their law enforcement towards this effort heightens the priority level of the mission.
Anti-immigration policies have come under fire from progressives. However, the conservative demographic celebrated this recent announcement from Governor DeSantis. It is the right decision to protect the livelihoods of Americans and discourage further illegal immigration. Law enforcement has a responsibility to protect the borders of our American nation, ensuring that anyone entering the United States does it legally and maintains a clear thought process while doing so.
It is time to put an end to these policies that threaten our national security. Governor DeSantis has taken a step in the right direction by deploying over 1,100 sheriffs and police to the southern border. This action will undoubtedly send a clear message that we will not tolerate illegal immigration, and the message goes to the federal government that they cannot exempt themselves from their obligation to protect their people.
Opponents of anti-immigration policies have undermined conservative-led efforts to consider the issue of illegal immigration seriously. However, Governor DeSantis poured in a significant amount of resources to help combat this critical issue. He has a vision of making America safe by using available resources and enforcing the rule of law to the letter.
The state of Florida stands in solidarity with Texas in the fight for secure borders. Governor DeSantis has set an example that other states must follow. This move shows that conservative leaders are serious about securing our borders and taking the necessary steps to get the job done.
The southern border is an essential security concern that the federal government has failed to address. Governor DeSantis’ bold and decisive action is a testament to the Republican party’s commitment to keep America’s safety a top priority. It is only through their leadership and conservative values that the country can succeed in providing a better future for its citizens.
