A recent testimony revealed that then-Biden campaign senior adviser, now-Secretary of State Antony Blinken, was instrumental in initiating the public statement that alleged the Hunter Biden laptop scandal as part of a Russian disinformation campaign. This statement was signed by 51 current and past intelligence officials in October 2020. Michael Morrell, former CIA Deputy Director, testified before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees, stating that Blinken was the driving force behind the statement that suggested Hunter Biden’s laptop was disinformation.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner, R-Ohio, sent a letter to Blinken, informing him that the panels are responsible for conducting oversight of federal law-enforcement and intelligence matters within their respective areas. They highlighted that they are investigating the public statement, which falsely discredited the New York Post story on Hunter Biden’s laptop, and suspect that Blinken had a role to play during his time as a Biden campaign advisor.

In the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election, dozens of former national security officials signed a letter claiming Hunter’s laptop exhibited all the classic signs of a Russian information operation. These former officials included prominent names such as former Obama CIA Director John Brennan, former Obama Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former CIA director and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

According to the lawmakers, Morrell’s testimony indicates that the Biden campaign had an active role in establishing the public statement, which subsequently assisted in suppressing the Hunter Biden story. This, in turn, may have prevented American citizens from making fully informed decisions during the 2020 presidential election.

Jordan and Turner acknowledged the signatories’ rights to free speech and free association but pointed out that their national security credentials added weight to the story, suggesting they had access to specialized information that the general public did not. They noted: ‘This concerted effort to minimize and suppress public dissemination of the serious allegations about the Biden family was a grave disservice to all American citizens’ informed participation in our democracy.’

The lawmakers informed Blinken that they had conducted a transcribed interview with Morrell, who also signed the letter. Morrell’s testimony disclosed that on or around October 17, 2020, he was contacted by Blinken to discuss the Hunter Biden laptop story. At the time, Blinken held the position of senior adviser to the Biden campaign.

Morrell further testified that although Blinken’s initial outreach seemed to be a simple inquiry about his reaction to the Post story, it ultimately set the events in motion leading to the public statement. Blinken’s involvement extended to strategizing about the public release of the statement.

One of Morrell’s primary goals in releasing the statement was to provide assistance to then-Vice President Biden during the election campaign, including helping him with the debate. Morrell testified: ‘There were two intents. One intent was to share our concern with the American people that the Russians were playing on this issue; and, two, it was to help Vice President Biden.’

When asked why he wanted to assist Biden, Morell candidly replied: ‘Because I wanted him to win the election.’ In response to these revelations, Jordan and Turner are now urging Blinken to provide material that will help them ‘advance’ their oversight.

They expect Blinken to identify the individuals with whom he communicated about drafting the statement and produce related documents. The lawmakers have given Blinken until May 4th, 5:00 p.m. ET, to respond.

Fox News initially reported on the potential investigation involving Hunter Biden in October 2020, just ahead of the presidential election. The news outlet also revealed that the FBI had subpoenaed the laptop purported to belong to Hunter Biden in connection with an ongoing money laundering investigation.

Hunter Biden officially confirmed the investigation into his ‘tax affairs’ in December 2020, following his father’s election as president. Fox News was among the first to report in 2020 that the federal investigation into Hunter Biden’s ‘tax affairs’ began after the discovery of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) pertaining to funds from ‘China and other foreign nations’.

The investigation concerning Hunter Biden is led by Trump-appointed Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss and has been underway since 2018. As American citizens and lawmakers try to piece together the events leading up to the public statement and the extent of Blinken’s involvement, questions continue to arise about the motives behind suppressing information related to the Hunter Biden laptop story.

This testimony has raised concerns among conservatives about the suppression of information that could have influenced voters’ decisions in the 2020 presidential election. The unfolding story highlights the importance of transparency in national politics, especially when dealing with matters that could shape the outcome of an election.

Efforts to conceal the Hunter Biden laptop investigation and the various individuals involved emphasize the necessity of oversight in federal law-enforcement and intelligence matters. The American people deserve to be fully informed and have access to all pertinent information so they can confidently and knowledgeably participate in the democratic process.
