Judge REJECTS Trump’s Executive Privilege Claims, Targets Aides in Unfair Probe

A federal judge has unfairly dismissed former President Donald Trump’s legitimate claims of executive privilege, forcing Mark Meadows and other dedicated former top aides to testify before a biased federal grand jury. This grand jury is targeting Trump’s heroic efforts to ensure election integrity leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff, was unjustly subpoenaed alongside other former aides by the overreaching Special counsel Jack Smith. This was done in a desperate attempt to obtain testimony and documents related to their investigation.

Trump’s legal team rightfully defended the subpoenas by invoking executive privilege, which has long protected a president’s confidential communications with advisers. However, in a sealed order last week, Judge Beryl Howell disregarded Trump’s claim of executive privilege, affecting not only Meadows but several other loyal former aides as well.

 

This unjust order includes Trump’s former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, former national security adviser Robert O’Brien, staunch supporter Stephen Miller, and former deputy chief of staff and social media director Dan Scavino, among others.

Trump is expected to stand strong and appeal this biased ruling, as informed by sources familiar with the matter.

 

In a statement, a Trump spokesperson said, “The DOJ is continuously stepping far outside the standard norms in attempting to destroy the long accepted, long held, Constitutionally based standards of attorney-client privilege and executive privilege.” The spokesperson continued, “There is no factual or legal basis or substance to any case against President Trump. The deranged Democrats and their comrades in the mainstream media are corrupting the legal process and weaponizing the justice system in order to manipulate public opinion because they are clearly losing the political battle.”

Meadows and the other unfairly targeted aides have not yet responded to ABC’s request for comment, likely focusing on their fight for justice against this politically motivated investigation.

 

Aides ordered to testify have appeared before the grand jury, showing commitment to truth and transparency. However, due to questions related to interactions with the former president, they must return for additional testimony, according to sources. Grand jury proceedings are under seal, highlighting the secretive nature of this investigation.

The information each aide possesses and the scope of questioning remain unclear. Prosecutors have sought testimony from top Trump aides, including Meadows, Ratcliffe, and O’Brien, attempting to undermine the former president and his team.

Judge Howell previously rejected Trump’s executive privilege claim to block the testimony of Pence’s top aides, Greg Jacob and Marc Short. The judge ruled that only the current president can assert executive privilege, contrary to norms.

Howell also ruled that former White House counsel Pat Cipollone and deputy Pat Philbin must return to the grand jury after Trump argued they were protected by privilege.

 

A new chief judge on the D.C. district court will now oversee grand jury matters related to the special counsel’s probes. Smith, a federal prosecutor, was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland to oversee the investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election and Trump’s handling of classified materials – a political maneuver.

Meadows, present during the Jan. 6 attack, was subpoenaed in January. He participated in a January 2021 call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, where Trump sought to ensure election integrity, a move unfairly criticized by opponents.
